AUBURN â The DeKalb County Economic Development Partnership worked on a record 43 projects last year, which involved $145.6 million of investment in new and existing business, the organization said Tuesday.
âIn a year where unexpected unemployment, a global pandemic and uncertain economic times were experienced, DeKalb County pushed through with higher-than-expected economic development investment numbers,â said Anton King, executive director of the partnership
DeKalb County gained 475 pledged jobs in 2020, King said. In addition, 1,593 jobs were retained by existing businesses and industries in the county.
Five communities in the county have new active investments, including Credent Wealth Managementâs headquarters in Auburn, TrueCore in Waterloo, Astral of Auburn senior living community and Paragon Steel in rural Butler, among others.

Auburn has tied for fifth place in Site Selection s 2021 list of the nation s Top-10 Micropolitan Areas, based on more than $145 million in capital investment last year in Auburn and surrounding DeKalb County.
Total investment was almost five times the $30 million in capital spending for 2019. Anton King, executive director of the DeKalb County Economic Development Partnership Inc., said the lower figure is more typical for the area.
“This is a huge achievement,” he said.
Among the companies making business investments in Auburn last year were Team Quality Services, ContiTech, Scot Industries and Credent Wealth Management. Companies making capital investments in other DeKalb County areas include TrueCore, Forest River XLR Boost, Paragon Steel and Steel Dynamics Inc.
AUBURN â The city of Auburn ranks as Americaâs fifth-strongest âmicropolitan areaâ in a new report by Site Selection Magazine.
The magazine defines micropolitan areas as between 10,000 and 49,999 residents. Auburnâs population was 13,056 in the latest census estimate for 2019.
The report ranks micropolitans according to the number of corporate projects that began in 2020. It lists Auburn with nine such projects.
Angola ranks in a tie for 32nd place with three projects last year.
