2 hospitalized after SUV crashes in Point Loma Heights

SAN DIEGO    Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries they suffered in a solo-vehicle rollover crash in the Point Loma Heights area Sunday night, police said. The crash happened around 11:10 p.m. on Nimitz Boulevard near Voltaire Street, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said. A 17-year-old girl was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer SUV northbound in the left lane when a passenger, an 18-year-old man, grabbed the steering wheel and moved it back and forth, Buttle said. The driver was startled and turned the steering wheel hard to the right, causing the SUV to cross into the right lane and collide with a bridge abutment under Voltaire Street.

Print Two men were hospitalized with injuries from a crash in the Point Loma Heights neighborhood shortly after midnight Saturday. An 18-year-old man was speeding southbound on Worden Street when he struck another car turning into the intersection from Polack Avenue, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said. The driver of that car, a 30-year-old man, had been traveling eastbound on Polack and had stopped at a stop sign before turning left on Worden, police said. After the collision, one of the vehicles struck five other vehicles parked on the street. The teen driver sustained a lacerated liver, and his front seat passenger, a man in his 20s, was also injured with a fractured femur on his left leg. Both were transported to hospitals, Martinez said. The 30-year-old driver suffered scrapes and bruises and didn’t require hospitalization, he said.
