Clive Richards, who has died aged 83, was a City entrepreneur, Herefordshire farmer, generous philanthropist and leading collector of artefacts relating to Nelson and Brunel.
Richards was finance director of the merchant bank NM Rothschild & Sons before striking out on his own in 1976 as a venture capitalist and corporate financier. Over the following decades he held almost 60 directorships, buying and selling many businesses and launching several on the stock market.

Prof. George Benneh, Professor Emeritus and a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon, is reported dead. He was said to have died “peacefully” at his residence in East Legon, on Thursday February 11, 2021, at age 87. A family spokesperson, confirmed the news to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and said funeral arrangements would be announced later. Prof. Benneh served as Minister of State in the Supreme Military Council (2) regime, the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council regime and in the 3rd Republic. He held portfolios, including Lands and Natural Resources, Fuel and Power and served as Minister for Finance in the Limann Government.
The 87-year-old died on Thursday at his East Legon residence in Accra.
The news was confirmed by a family spokesperson who indicated that funeral arrangements will be announced later.
George Benneh is survived by his wife, Adelaide Mary Benneh, six children and several grandchildren.
The Professor served as Minister of State in the SMC2 regime, the AFRC regime and in the 3rd Republic.
He also held portfolios including Lands and Natural Resources, Fuel and Power and served as Minister for Finance in the Limann Government.
He was also awarded the “Star of Volta” by President John Agyekum Kufuor and is also a Papal Knight of the Catholic Church.
