Solano supervisors shine light on Alzheimer’s ‘Longest Day’
FAIRFIELD There are about 7,000 Solano County residents who live with Alzheimer’s disease, and about 650,000 in the state.
Bob Panzer, a local advocate who lost his mother to the disease, said that number could more than double by 2030.
“And minorities are at the highest risk of getting the disease, but are less likely to get timely (care),” Panzer said.
The Solano County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution Tuesday that recognizes June as National Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month and declared June 20 as “The Longest Day.”
The significance of June 20 – the summer solstice and the day with the most daylight – is to shine the most light possible on the disease.
NorthBay Healthcare support groups will meet virtually during February. The Vacaville NorthBay Alzheimer’s Dementia Caregiver Support Group will meet via video or phone conference at 7 p.m. June 9. The group is co-facilitated by volunteers Bob Panzer, Donna Stewart Sharen Podzimek and Patt Flo

VACAVILLE NorthBay Healthcare support groups are meeting virtually during April.
The Vacaville NorthBay Alzheimer’s Dementia Caregiver Support Group will meet via video or phone conference at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The group is co-facilitated by volunteers Bob Panzer, Donna Stewart, Sharen Podzimek and Patt Florez and is exclusively for current and former caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s or other dementias.
