RSP scrambles to dispel rumours of LDF inclination

Political dynasties left battered in Kerala, reveal assembly poll results

Express News Service THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Whether the huge mandate in favour of Pinarayi Vijayan was a rejection of the dynastic politics in the state as well? Well, not almost but partially. Out of the 25 families which sought mandate in the 2021 assembly elections in Kerala, 14 families lost out in the race in the state while 11 tasted success. In two constituencies- Pala and Chavara- the people have no other option but to choose one of the wards of the politically families as both rival candidates were from political families.  The results of the assembly elections have left the political dynasties battered and mauled especially in the opposition which fielded children from 15 political families and 11 of them lost the elections, while the LDF which pitted 10 wards of the political families, has lost only three children of the political families and seven of them won the elections.

A do-or-die battle for RSP - The Hindu

Party trying hard to regain representation in Assembly In the last 50 years, Eravipuram has seen only two non-RSP representatives, the last one being sitting MLA M. Naushad. The 2016 Assembly polls was the first one after the party switched sides severing its ties with the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the electoral outcome had been a shocker. The RSP lost all its bastions in Kollam and had no representation for the first time in the State Assembly. To reclaim the fortress and bury the embarrassment, the UDF has fielded former minister and veteran RSP leader Babu Divakaran in the segment. The three-time MLA is expected to reverse the damage and secure a resounding victory for the party in Eravipuram. A constituency where cashew workers and fishers are a decisive force, the Assembly segment includes 23 divisions of Kollam Corporation and Mayyanad panchayat.
