The JEA board of directors scheduled a public rate hearing for Aug. 24 where it is expected to vote on the first water, sewer and irrigation capacity fee increases in 15 years, affecting builders and customers connecting to the city-owned utility’s system. The board also will vote on adjustments to electric rates, but JEA CEO Jay Stowe said at the June 22 board meeting that the changes will have a “net neutral” impact and not raise the average residential customer’s bill in fiscal year 2022.

08:13 PM EST Share The publicly owned utility’s vice chair is the first member appointed under a process approved by voters in November. The Regency Group Inc. President Bobby Stein will remain on the JEA board of directors.  The Jacksonville City Council voted 19-0 as part of the consent agenda Feb. 9 to reappoint Stein to his first full term on the municipal water and electric utility board through February 2025. Council President Tommy Hazouri and the five JEA labor unions nominated Stein in January for reappointment. He is the first JEA board member nominated and reappointed under the utility’s new board selection process.

05:00 PM EST Share The 16-year city utility executive was rehired in May to ‘right the ship’ after an attempt to sell it. The JEA board of directors honored interim Managing Director and CEO Paul McElroy during its monthly meeting Dec. 11 with an official send-off. McElroy leaves the city-owned utility after a seven-month tenure where he purged senior executives involved in the last year’s attempt to sell JEA. He worked to reduce the size of JEA’s next corporate headquarters building Downtown and settled the utility’s legal fight with Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia over a purchase power agreement for nuclear Plant Vogtle.
