Japan records new record high of Covid-19 cases as experts urge public to cancel holiday travel

Japan reported a record 3,268 new coronavirus infections Wednesday, according to the country s Health Ministry.
Wednesday s numbers top the previous record of Dec. 17, when authorities reported 3,208 cases.
Tokyo reported 748 new cases the capital s second-highest number of infections confirmed in a single day, according to the city s metropolitan government.
The Health Ministry also reported 56 additional coronavirus-related fatalities Wednesday, pushing the country s death toll to 3,063.

If successful, the plan could help end a pandemic that’s killed almost 300,000 Americans in the 47 weeks since the first case was recorded. FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service Inc. picked up the first shipment of the Pfizer Inc.-BioNTech SE vaccines from a Kalamazoo, Michigan, factory on Sunday morning. The first deliveries are scheduled for Monday morning and the initial lot will be in all 50 states by Wednesday, according to Gustave Perna, the army general who serves as chief operating officer for Operation Warp Speed.

Los Angeles County has recorded a record number of new Covid-19 cases for a second straight day, raising the total number of residents in the nation s most populous county who have tested positive to more than a half-million, in what health officials called uncharted territory. We re on a very dangerous track to see unprecedented and catastrophic suffering and death here in L.A. County if we can t stop the surge, Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer said.
