Frank Leahy: The Swing Vote!

ITHACA, NY Growing up on Staten Island in the ‘60s, Frank Leahy had eight siblings. The Leahy family lived in a small, sparsely populated village surrounded by farmland. “We lived in a close-knit neighborhood and all the grownups watched out for all the kids as we walked to the park and to each others’ homes.” Most of the time, Frank had a sister or a brother nearby. Frank’s father worked three jobs to support their family — New York City fireman, occasional dock worker, and truck driver as needed. “At home we didn’t have a lot of family rules, but we all helped with baby care, and generally pitched in to see that chores were done…Still we had plenty of time to play unsupervised, so we had many adventures.”

Michael J. Peluso, 67, of West Carthage, NY passed away after a brief stay at the Carthage Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Michael was born on May 11, 1953 in Carthage, New York, the son of the late Feo and Fleta Peluso. Michael married his high school sweetheart Sandra Parks on July 2, 1971 and remained happily married for nearly 50 years. He loved to golf, work in the garden, look at the wildlife, especially birds, but most of all loved spending time with his family. Michael graduated from Carthage Central in 1971 and Potsdam College in 1976. He began as a Chemistry teacher at IHC in Watertown. After his brief teaching career, he worked at Nalco Chemical, and has spent nearly 40 years in the paper industry, most recently with Neenah Paper Company in Brownville.

POTSDAM - Margaret “Peg” Elaine Scanlon Minotti, 96, passed away peacefully at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, NY, on February 3rd, 2021. Born in Schenectady, NY, on November 7, 1924, to Anna (McCarty) and Andrew J. Scanlon, Peg was a dedicated student attending Vincentian Institute in Albany and overcoming childhood tuberculosis - sleeping out on the second floor porch of the family’s 1710 Union St. home provided therapy on cold winter nights. She recalled many happy memories with her sister Rita and brother Andrew; a bond they would maintain throughout their adult lives including cherished summer vacations on Cape Cod. Peg attended the Crane School of Music, State University of New York, Potsdam, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in education and a Master of Science degree in music. She taught music in the Saratoga Springs Public Schools from 1946-1952. While attending Potsdam College’s White Pine Camp summer programs, she met her future husband, Victor
