Southern Oregon’s Cowhorn Vineyard is the latest landmark winery to sell

Even though your lawn might be parched, it’s raining winery and vineyard sales in Oregon. Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden in Jacksonville is the latest in a recent string of winery and vineyard owners selling to out-of-state interests.
Hot on the heels of the recent sales of Ponzi Vineyards and Redford Wetle Vineyard, last week Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden founders Barbara and Bill Steele sold their 117-acres in the Applegate Valley to a group of investors.
The group, which includes investors from California to Virginia, is headed by Katherine “Mini” Banks. Banks will hold the title of general manager while overseeing the day-to-day winery, vineyard and farm operations at Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden.

Ideally it works, but too often itâs a disaster
As someone who was active in off-campus teaching for some 30 of a 50-year career in higher education, and with awards and media coverage for my innovations, I am nevertheless concerned at proposals such as the use of pre-recorded lectures combined with a weekly or fortnightly seminar. This strategy can work where lecture equivalents are updated, seminar sizes are limited to 30 or so well-prepared students, and they take place in purpose-designed classrooms with movable seating to allow for break-out groups.
L.A. County Supervisors expand rent relief program, extend eviction moratorium

LOS ANGELES - Anticipating Los Angeles County s fair share of $25 billion in federal rent relief, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to extend and expand both a local rent relief program and eviction moratorium.
Supervisors Hilda Solis and Janice Hahn co-authored a motion calling for more flexibility in the rent relief program, which will now also be extended for another year through Dec. 31. Hundreds of thousands are struggling to pay their rent on time or even to pay it at all, Hahn said.
