League of Women Voters of Florida files suit to overturn new election law
By NATHAN MAYBERG - | May 12, 2021
Gov. Ron DeSantis
The League of Women Voters of Florida has filed a lawsuit challenging election legislation signed into law last week by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The legislation, which critics –including the League say could suppress voting, was supported by Lee County’s Republican delegation including Sen. Ray Rodrigues (R-Estero), Sen. Ben Albritton (R-Wauchula), Sen. Kathleen Passidomo (R-Naples), representatives Adam Botana (R-Bonita Springs), Spencer Roach (R-North Fort Myers), Jenna Persons-Mulicka (R-Fort Myers) and Mike Giallambardo (R-Cape Coral).
Rodrigues said the bill, known as SB-90, “makes it very difficult to cheat.” He said the legislation will create more safeguards for drop box locations. Previously, some counties did not guard drop boxes in the way the election law intended, he said. ....

Controversial voting laws add to Democrats' midterm obstacles

The proliferation of controversial voting measures in state legislatures is adding another layer of uncertainty for Democrats as they brace for an already challenging political landscape in the 2022 midterm elections.
Nearly a dozen states, including battlegrounds like Florida and Georgia, have already enacted new voting laws this year, and there are more on the way. The Texas state House of Representatives approved an omnibus bill on Friday that calls for a host of new voting restrictions.
The new measures, which Democrats say are intended to make voting more difficult, present just one more obstacle for Democrats heading into 2022, when they will have to defend their slim majorities in the House and Senate. ....

Untethered from Common Sense Democrats and the Press Rage About a Florida Voter Law the Citizens Want

One of the prominent papers in the state of Florida is South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and last Wednesday the paper offered up a piece from the Editorial Board that scorched DeSantis on a number of perceived aggressions. After referring to him as a “dictator” (a headline that was surreptitiously changed) the op-ed listed a number of examples of their charge, including opening the state for the citizens, removing lockdown restrictions on a local level, and signing a number of problematic bills.
Sure, nothing describes a tyrant better than granting people liberty and rolling back government mandates.
Then the next day saw the governor acting in a fashion that made the press lose their collective minds. DeSantis signed the voter integrity law during an appearance on the morning show Fox & Friends, and he did not announce this event to the press. Those journalists racing to the scene found the doors locked, forcing them to peer through windows to watch. The journalists how ....

A supervisor of elections in Southwest Florida is responding to a massive lawsuit over a new voting law that names every county in the state.
Those who filed the lawsuit claim the new law does nothing but suppress voters and claim the law violates the First and 14th amendments.
Because they expected the governor to sign it, they were ready with lawsuits the moment he did. Among them was a lawsuit filed by the League of Women Voters of Florida. ....

The state legislature passed a change to the state’s election law which was signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis after party-line votes in the Republican-controlled legislature. Democrats opposed the measures for being part of a wave of legislation being introduced by Republicans in a host of states which they believe will make it tougher to vote. ....
