Town of Unicoi hosting Back-2-School Blowout

The town of Unicoi is inviting kids to splash into the new school year at their Back-2-School Blowout on Aug. 6. The Back-2-School Blowout will begin at 7 p.m. at the Unicoi Visitorâs Center. The luau-themed event will feature a slip-n-slide, water shooters, a crazy sprinkler, a water balloon war and an inflatable obstacle course. Following the water fun, an island-themed disney movie will begin. âThis will be the perfect end to summer,â said Communications and Programs Director Ashley Shelton. âWeâve added a few new items this year, like the inflatable obstacle course, and weâve redesigned the slip-n-slide to have just a little more slope than when we debuted it two years ago.â

Florida Coastal s teach-out plan rejected again; another school demonstrates compliance on bar pass rates

For the second time in a month, the council and an executive committee of the ABA’s Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar has rejected a teach-out plan submitted by the Florida Coastal School of Law. According to a May 13 news release from the DOE, the private equity firm that owned 98.6% of Florida Coastal relinquished its ownership in April. In regard to the teach-out plan rejections, the council first posted a public notice April 26, stating that the submission did not include sufficient details. The revised plan also lacked sufficient details, specifically in regard to the DOE decision, according to the May 18 public notice.

What comes next for law schools with two-year bar pass rates below 75%?

According to a June 2019 memo, if a law school is out of compliance with the standard and in a subsequent year reports a bar pass rate of at least 75%, the school “will have cured its noncompliance and will be found back in compliance with the standard.” Charleston School of Law accomplished that in February 2021. Larry Cunningham, the school’s dean, told the ABA Journal in an email they were able to demonstrate Standard 316 compliance with a class of 2019 pass rate above 75%. “ABA Standard 316 sets a floor, not a ceiling. We are going to continue striving to improve our bar passage rate, which is an important outcome for students,” he wrote.
