Coleg Cambria to pilot dance programme for people with Parkinson s disease

COLEG CAMBRIA is to pilot a dance programme for people with Parkinson’s disease. Led by National Dance Company Wales (NDCWales) the free virtual classes will be for those living with the condition, as well as carers, family, and friends. As part of an affiliated hub of English National Ballet’s Dance for Parkinson’s programme, the initiative was launched in 2015 in South Wales and moved online following the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, with the support of Digital Communities Wales, giving all participants the confidence and skills to use their laptops and tablets to access the sessions. Now targeting new members in the north of the country, classes this Spring will focus on two dance films from English National Ballet’s recent digital season - Senseless Kindness by Yuri Possokhov, and Arielle Smith’s Jolly Folly.

How a 1940s notebook belonging to a late Bolton College student is inspiring today s learners

When Dorothy Chapman began studying at Bolton Technical College in 1946, little would she have known that over 75 years later, Bolton College’s childcare students would be taking inspiration from her work. Tutors and students from Bolton College’s Childcare and Education department received Dorothy’s old notebook in the post, following her death at the age of 87 last year. Dorothy’s daughters Gina and Isla discovered the book (pictured) whilst clearing out Dorothy’s possessions, and have to donated it to the college. Dorothy, whose maiden name was Kay, left Bolton in the 1950s but she was said to have always looked back on her time in the town fondly, particularly the period she spent studying nursery nursing at the now-demolished Technical College on Manchester Road.
