ILWomen DII Roundup: Rollins, Queens Tabbed Teams of the Week & More

Wednesday April 14th, 2021 9:00am (Photo Courtesy: Kevin Conn)  There is less than one month until the NCAA announces its tournament field and there is no shortage of drama in trying to figure out which 12 teams will make the NCAA Tournament. We also still have seven teams that have yet to suffer a loss in 2021. The four highest profile teams are names which we’ve talked about all season and currently make up the four top spots in the latest IWLCA National Poll.  UIndy is 9-0 with 20 first place votes, followed by No. 2 Lindenwood (8-0) with four first place votes, while Le Moyne has one first place vote and is 7-0. West Chester comes in at No. 4 with its 7-0 record though should be tested by No. 10 East Stroudsburg this weekend. The final three undefeated teams are at the bottom of the top-25, but are putting together some of the best seasons their programs have seen. Wednesday March 3rd, 2021 11:00am (Photo Courtesy: Don Adams Jr.)  It was another impressive week of lacrosse throughout the Division II landscape, while UIndy and Lindenwood both came away with wins to assert their dominance as the teams to beat in the Midwest.   Some great news came from the PSAC & Northeast-10 last week, as both conferences announced their plans for lacrosse this spring. The Indianapolis Greyhounds, ranked fifth in the preseason, posted the first statement win of the 2021 season with a dominating 15-5 victory at then-No. 2 Queens on Saturday. Holding a two-goal lead at halftime, the Hounds outscored the Royals 9-1 in the second half to claim the marquee win. Preseason No. 1 Lindenwood maintains its position in the top spot and stands 2-0 overall with victories over Northern Michigan and Regis. Here are the top returning goal scorers for the 2021 DII women s lacrosse season

Sofia Michael, Ashland 33 goals in six games Despite playing in just six games last year, Sofia Michael was tied with Limestone s Julia Foster for the most goals scored in the nation at 33. Her 5.50 goals per game average also ranked first in DII. In addition to goals, Michael led Ashland in points (40), shots (66) and shots on goal (51). The senior attacker added seven assists before the 2020 season was cut short. Julia Foster, Limestone 33 goals in eight games As mentioned previously, Foster s 33 goals were tied with Michael for the most last season. The midfielder also led the Saints in shots (60) and shots on goal (51). An incredible 85 percent of her shots were on goal, the second-highest percentage of anyone on this list. Foster finished with 45 points and 12 assists in 2020.
