We’ve just been through a year-plus in dealing with a global pandemic. Many of our actions and reactions were laudable: The toughness of our frontline workers, our own adaptability and community-minded actions, and countless, personal brave and selfless acts. But we stumbled as well, and in some instances and with some strategies we wished we had a do-over.
We’ve asked several people in the Capital Region to look back over the past year, and to also look forward. If, heaven help us, another pandemic takes hold in the near future, with what we know now, how might we react differently. What are some of the lessons we have learned?

The Stewart s Shop at the corner of Henry Johnson Boulevard and Livingston Avenue in Albany. The intersection of Henry Johnson and Livingston is regulated partly by a stop sign at the corner of Northern Boulevard and Colonie Street.John Carl D Annibale
Q:
I’ve been curious about these two traffic questions for some time:
Driving north on Route 9 in Colonie, does the left-turn signal at Maxwell Road have any rationale for its operation? Sometimes the light has a left turn signal and sometimes not. Time of day seems to have little bearing.
This one is an open debate between bride and groom at this house. Driving on Northern Boulevard south past the former Livingston School, you bear right to a stop sign and merge with I-90 traffic at Livingston Avenue. After proceeding beyond the stop sign, who must yield as the two lanes merge?

Q:
We have an upcoming trip planned and will have to leave our vehicle at the long-term parking lot at the Albany International Airport. Does the new parking garage have long-term parking and rates or do I need to park in the lot on the other side of the airport? J. Martin, Westerlo
A: The albany Airport has closed the economy E-Lot on the east side of the airfield due to the dramatic decrease in air travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Doug Myers, director of public affairs for the Albany County Airport Authority.

Spirit Airlines had the lowest percentage of canceled flights in 2020, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s year-end report, released in late February.
Of Spirit’s 135,102 scheduled flights, 2,964 were canceled, or 2.19 percent, up from 1.75 percent of flights in 2019.
All airlines saw an increase in cancelations, likely a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused significant changes in airline schedules and operations.
Allegiant Air had the highest percentage of canceled flights, canceling 14,296 of its 98,489 planned flights, or 14.52 percent, up from less than one percent the year before.
