Dr Adham: Empty syringe case was due to human error

PETALING JAYA: Incidents of individuals being vaccinated for Covid-19 with empty syringes are currently under investigation and have no links to the vaccines being sold on the black market, says Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba. When contacted, the Health Minister said that there was an isolated case currently under investigation and that action had already been taken. He clarified that the inoculators involved in the incident at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre had been removed, while police concluded the other case which happened at Bangi Avenue Convention Centre on Sunday (July 18) as the individual involved had received the vaccination.

Malaysia's 'empty syringe' incidents may fuel Covid-19 vaccine hesitancy, experts say

July 21, 2021 Malaysia ’s Health Minister Adham Baba on Tuesday said residents who received improperly administered Covid-19 vaccine shots would be called in for a fresh dose, as observers warned that reports of such impropriety would further fuel vaccine hesitancy. The minister’s brief comments to the Berita Harian newspaper follow intense discussions on social media over videos purportedly showing staff at vaccination centres administering jabs with empty syringes. On Monday (July 19), the country’s Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) said it took the reports seriously and would investigate. “If found guilty of such offences, the task force would not hesitate to terminate the services of those involved and take actions according to the provisions of the law,” it said in a statement.

Published on: Wednesday, July 21, 2021 By: Bernama Text Size: Kuala Lumpur: The police have denied the claims that a man was injected with an empty syringe at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre (BACC) vaccination centre (PPV) here on Saturday. Kajang district police chief Mohd Zaid Hassan said the allegation was due to a misunderstanding, and the individual had received the Sinovac vaccine. He said investigations found that the staff of the vaccination centre had contacted the man and explained the procedure of vaccination to him and the individual was satisfied with the information.  “Police did not receive any report from the man or any related individuals on the claims of being almost duped when receiving the vaccine at the PPV,” he said in a statement.

Those found guilty of wrongdoing during immunisation drive to be terminated

It said it would not hesitate to end the services of vaccination personnel for misconduct. “CITF views seriously the allegations concerning the Covid-19 jab administration at the vaccination centres that have gone viral. “As such, CITF is now working with the authorities, such as the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Armed Forces, which are conducting investigations into the matter so such incidents will not occur again,” it said in a statement yesterday. CITF said there were allegations surrounding a drive-through vaccination centre that was specially reserved for Malaysian Armed Forces personnel and their family members. It was alleged that the incident took place on July 17 at a drive-through vaccination centre in Kem Lapangan Terbang Sungai Petani, Kedah.
