Funding, training urged for promotion of mountaineering

Islamabad : Speaking at a webinar on ‘mountaineering challenges confronting Pakistan,’ the experts urged the government to urgently establish a professional mountaineering school and a strong Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) having right professionals on board.
The experts also appreciated the Pakistan army for conducting the rescue operations quite efficiently when needed. They highlighted that getting a mountaineering permit takes too long despite the Prime Minister’s instruction to reduce the processing time. It takes too much time to get a visa for the foreign tourists though the federal government has announced a lenient visa policy.

Islamabad: Seven dedicated professionals serving the mountain communities and putting their best efforts into the conservation and development of mountains’ natural resources will be awarded the 2nd Pakistan Mountains Pride Awards.
A grand ceremony will be organised by the Development Communications Network (Devcom-Pakistan) in Islamabad with the support of development partners and organisations serving the land and people of northern highlands.
Devcom-Pakistan launched Pakistan Mountains Pride Awards in 2019 to recognize the services par excellence of the individuals that they rendered over the years to the mountains of Pakistan and its communities.
Devcom-Pakistan Executive Director Munir Ahmed is the founder of Pakistan Mountains Pride Awards (PAMPA) and Pakistan Mountain Festival (PMF), the 10th edition of which was concluded in December 2020 despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
Undue human interventions spoiled wildlife in Margalla Hills

Islamabad : The experts speaking at an event on Saturday urged the authorities and government institutions to control undue human interventions and constructions in the Margalla Hills National Park to protect the habitats of wildlife.
They said that most of the efforts are focused on hills alone while the Rawal Lake and Shakarparian area are flooded with construction and visitors. We need to control incoming vehicles and visitors and strictly restrict change in the land-use within the MHNP boundaries.

Community empowerment to protect and conserve the mountain biodiversity resources and use them more wisely is the key solution to fast degrading mountain ecosystems.
