ZBA denies special permits for Wellfleet contractor s yard

WELLFLEET   The Zoning Board of Appeals on Thursday denied special permits for a proposed contractor s yard with bulk storage on Route 6. In its decision, the board cited a lack of project information and potentially adverse impacts to neighboring lands, including property owned by Cape Cod National Seashore. The project at 1065 U.S. Route 6 also drew significant concern from residents, about 100 of whom attended the April 8 hearing that was conducted via Zoom. The applicant, Great White Realty, sought special permits from the board to use the 1.3- acre site as a contractor yard with bulk storage and light industrial use. Great White Realty bought the property on Jan. 8 and quickly began removing trees, moving topsoil and depositing sand at the site.

High St safety upgrades coming to Motueka

Traffic signals will be installed at the Pah/Greenwood/High Street intersection, and the existing zebra crossing on High Street, just south of the Pah/Greenwood/High Street intersection will be removed. Waka Kotahi director of regional relationships Emma Speight said the improvements dated back to 2017, when the agency began to seek public feedback on potential changes. “These safety improvements will ensure everyone who uses High Street can get to where they are going safely when they are driving through or visiting Motueka’s bustling town centre.” Speight said replacing the existing zebra crossings with signalised crossings would help people get across the road more safely, as well as helping traffic flow better during peak times and making it easier for people to enter High St from side streets.
