Educate Together has won the patronage of the new secondary school in Gorey, which is to open in September 2021.
The online patronage contest allowed parents to vote for their preference, with the final decision taken by Minister Norma Foley based off recommendations by the New Schools Establishment Group.
Educate Together put forward a bid for the patronage(alongside Catholic body Ceist and the WWETB, and were announced as the successful candidate.
Local parent Joanne O Grady, from the Educate Together campaign, said that all the team were very excited about the future. The new school will enhance the current provision available in the town and more students in Gorey will now have the opportunity to avail of their first choice, whether this is Creagh College, Gorey Community School or the new Educate Together Secondary School. Most of all it is a relief for all families in Gorey that they will no longer face the pressure of waiting to hear whether a child has a place or not in

The Minister for Education Norma Foley TD today announced the patronage of the four new post-primary schools to be established in 2021.
In all cases, the Minister accepted the recommendations of the New Schools Establishment Group (NSEG).
Todayâs announcement forms an essential part of plans to ensure that sufficient new school places are available to cater for the growing numbers of pupils at post-primary level over the coming years.
The new post-primary schools are being established in September 2021 as part of the Governmentâs commitment to invest heavily in education with 47 new schools to be established between 2019 and 2022 to cater for demographic growth. Following an updated review of demographics at post-primary level, the Minister recently announced that she has approved a number of changes to the list of post-primary schools to be established
