As severe drought takes its toll in several Bay Area counties in California, many of the large, mature trees in the area are put under stress .
According to the 2021 Homeowners Insurance and Wildfire Coverage survey, around 77% of California is experiencing severe drought just this year. Governor Gavin Christopher Newsom of California declared drought emergency in some Northern California counties, leading state agencies to expedite drought resilience and community preparation in case of severe impacts, as dry conditions could extend to a third year.

2021 has been the third driest water year on record for California. Amidst the widespread drought, Santa Clara County is considering a resolution to declare a local water emergency.

SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 14, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) today presented the prestigious Clair A. Hill Water Agency Award for Excellence to Orange County Water District (OCWD) for its PFAS Pilot Project.
OCWD s PFAS Pilot Project is the nation s largest pilot testing program that tests various treatment techniques in a proactive effort to remover PFAS detected in local groundwater supplies. The district has tested multiple technologies including granular activated carbon and ion exchange products as well as novel adsorbents. The district is currently working to add 10 PFAS treatment plants throughout the area and has provided more than a year s worth of data to help determine the most effective treatment media to remove PFAS. Phase 2 is currently under development and will test newly available adsorbents.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - A big cleanup effort Saturday along San Jose’s heavily polluted Coyote Creek included volunteers, city and county officials, community groups, and other agencies.
The mission was not only to help the environment – but also the unhoused living nearby.
The Valley Water District’s homeless encampment committee was on hand while the group cleared out a section of Coyote Creek, Santa Clara County’s longest waterway.

A challenge to a water district’s increase in its ad valorem property tax was untimely under the 60-day statute of limitations in the validation statutes.
Code of Civil Procedure sections 860-870 provide for accelerated procedures for determining the validity of certain bonds, assessments and agreements entered into by public agencies. Referred to as the validation statutes, they allow a public agency to file an action to promptly determine the validity of any of the agency’s acts that fall within the scope of their provisions. They also allow any “interested person” to bring an action challenging the validity of such acts (sometimes referred to as “reverse” validation actions) within 60 days of the challenged action.
