Gertrude D Trudy Conway

Dr. Gertrude D. “Trudy” Conway, professor emerita, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021, at home surrounded by her loved ones after an extended illness. She was 70. Trudy began her distinguished career teaching philosophy at Mount Saint Mary’s University in 1979, when she returned to the United States with her husband, Abdolreza (“Huschang”) Banan, from Iran, where she and Dr. Banan taught at Shiraz University. In addition to the decades she spent in the classroom, mentoring students and faculty alike, she found time to write several books, multiple scholarly articles, serve as associate dean of the college, begin the University Honors Program, and initiate a study abroad program that would become the model for the Mount’s foreign studies program today.

Chapman Student Helps Discover Rare Dinosaur Fossil on Montana Expedition

5 min read As a television writing and production major, Chapman University student Sarah Wallace ’22 can spot a clichéd storyline a mile away. Like this one, for example. Student drives with college friends to Montana to dig for dinosaur bones as part of a semester-end project. Exhausted, she collapses into her sleeping bag and dreams of finding a huge dinosaur fossil. Cut to the next day at the dig site. What does she find? A huge dinosaur fossil, of course. Enter excited paleontologists who remind the student that as the finder she gets to name the discovery. She proclaims it the “Dream Bone,” proving that – cue the happy music! – dreams can come true.
