RINGING IN THE CELEBRATION

It’s a celebration of accomplishment.  For students who have reached a level of academic success the Ring Celebration is a milestone. Last weekend students from Texas State University celebrated their achievement christening their class rings in a new fountain with water pumped straight from the San Marcos River. Hundreds of Bobcats, family and friends gathered marked the Spring event on May 7-8 at the Meadows Center.  The scenic Meadows Center provided a great backdrop for the tradition. The official class ring is reserved exclusively for currently enrolled graduate students, degree-holding alumni and undergraduate students who have completed 75 cumulative credit hours. The Ring Celebration is an event reserved exclusively for participation by Bobcats wearing the official class ring, provided by Balfour.

Sunday, May 9, 2021 Texas State University will host in-person, socially distanced commencement ceremonies for spring 2021 degree candidates on May 13 and 14 at Bobcat Stadium. Alan L. Tinsley, member of the Texas State University System Board of Regents, will be the keynote speaker during the 10 a.m. ceremony on May 14, to be attended by degree candidates from the Department of Biology; Department of Computer Science; Department of Engineering Technology; Department of Physics; Materials Science, Engineering and Commercialization; Interdisciplinary Science; Department of Finance and Economics; Department of Marketing; and Graduate College. Earl Maxwell, CEO of St. David’s Foundation, will be presented with an honorary doctoral degree during the 6 p.m. ceremony on May 13. Robby Maxwell will speak on behalf of his father.

Mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic takes place at Texas State

Thursday, April 22, 2021 A mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic took place Thursday at Texas State’s University Events Center with an estimated 6,000 Pfizer vaccine doses available.  As of press time Thursday, many spots, however, remained open. Anyone 16 years or older was eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine through the mass vaccination event.  Meanwhile, the COVID-19 vaccination effort continues across Hays County with over 53,000 Hays County residents  fully vaccinated as of Thursday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.  The DSHS states that 87,120 county residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine approximately 47.5% of eligible adults and 53,144 residents are fully vaccinated, 28.98%. The DSHS estimates that Hays County has a population of 183,380 who are 16 years or older.
