Parties in Indonesia: Alcohol soon illegal in tourism regions like Bali?

Tourism to Indonesia is big business and a major currency earner for the largest Muslim country on the globe. Tourism to Indonesia is big business and a major currency earner for the largest Muslim country on the globe. Parties in Bali and of course alcohol is a major draw for tourism into the Hindu part of Indonesia. How would tourism to Indonesia look with alcohol being illegal? A draft bill submitted to Indonesia’s Parliament earlier this year that called for a ban on alcohol in the world’s largest Muslim-majority country has stirred unease among the country’s predominantly moderate Muslims and fear among those who make their living in tourism, from upscale hotels in the capital, Jakarta, to beach bars and theme restaurants on the resort island of Bali.

Belmond's Jimbaran Puri Unveils Nyepi Day Package

By Contributor - February 24, 2021 Energy healing and chakra alignment sessions await guests at the Balinese beachside resort. The Hindu shrine at Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Bali. (All photos courtesy of Belmond) To celebrate Nyepi, the Balinese New Year and annual “day of silence” that falls on March 14, 2021, Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Bali is enticing weary travelers with a special two-night program that allows them to bask in the spirit of reflection and realignment of the occasion. Over the course of 24 hours, Balinese Hindus typically remain in their homes and abstain from work and recreation; Nyepi is also marked by the closure of the international airport and an island-wide ban on the use of fire and electricity (hotels are exempt), which, depending on weather conditions, creates the ideal conditions for stargazing.

Is Bali An Eco Paradise Or Paradox? What Conscious Travelers Must Know

January 11, 2021 Bali needs little introduction. It is the most famous of the 17,508 islands that make up the Indonesian archipelago. Since the opening of its international airport in the late 1960s, the island has been a sought-after tourist destination for backpackers, honeymooners and families alike. I was one of 6.3 million foreign tourists lucky enough to set foot on Bali’s shores in 2019, before Bali indefinitely closed its doors to foreigners in March 2020. With 80% of people in Bali directly or indirectly reliant on tourism, economic loss has hit this island hard. However, mass tourism has also bought ethical and environmental issues to Bali that have come to the forefront of international attention in recent years. These plague Bali’s pristine reputation, and may be even more detrimental to its tourism sector in the long-term.
