City of Portage – Asphalt multi-use trail maintenance to begin Tuesday By Will Kriss Jun 14, 2021 | 5:50 PM PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Asphalt trail maintenance is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 15, according to an announcement from the City of Portage Monday. The two trails affected include the following: Schrier Park Trail (main asphalt walkway to wood chip trail), Shaver Road Multi-use Trail (Portage Industrial Cul-de-sac to South Westnedge Park baseball diamonds). The Multi-use Trails will be closed during the maintenance process and are expected to be open for full use by 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 17. Trail users are asked to seek an alternate route during the work time.

The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District launched the 2021 competitive grant programs totaling $33.4 million for park development across Los Angeles County, with online applications open until Oct. 28. Funded by Measure A, the programs are open for online applications by eligible park development entities from April 30 to October 28 at 10:00 a.m. Virtual workshops for the competitive grant programs will be held on May 12 and June 9. In 2016, LA County voters passed the Los Angeles County Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Measure (Measure A) by 74.9%. The annual parcel tax, which taxes real property in the County at a rate of 1.6 cents per square of development, generates approximately $95 million in revenue every year.

The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD) announced new funding opportunities for park development across Los Angeles County, made possible by the Los Angeles County Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Measure of 2016 (Measure A). Funded by an annual parcel tax, Measure A will help increase the amount of park space and improve neighborhood access to open space, particularly in ‘high park need’ or ‘very-high park need’ communities. In this upcoming grant cycle, RPOSD will offer $33.4 million in Measure A competitive grant funding and up to $1 million through its new  Technical Assistance Program. Eligible park development entities are encouraged to attend a workshop and apply for Measure A funding.
