Murmuration is the Movement: Panelists discuss diversity in birding CARROLL TOWNSHIP - For Carlos Ross, who was born in the Philippines in 1979 and came to the United States in 1983, the birding experience growing up felt “solitary.” At the time, birding was viewed as a “white person’s hobby,” not something Ross saw fellow Asian children doing, and that there simply were not a lot of immigrant birder narratives from an Asian American perspective, which is changing now. “Still, in Texas, I kind of feel like a unicorn,” Ross said. The key reasons they attribute for the drop is increased human interference in their breeding regions, climate change and rising air and water pollution.
