How the Queen has celebrated her birthday over the years – and why today will set a precedent There will be no flower from Prince Philip on her early-morning tray, but other elements of the day will follow tradition On her 90th birthday, the Queen greeted well-wishers in Windsor Credit: Reuters Sincere good wishes and feelings of gratitude will be in the hearts of many millions of subjects as the Queen celebrates her 50th birthday today. She has spent nearly half her life as monarch,  noted the Birmingham Daily Post on 21 April 1976. As always, letters and messages of congratulation from all parts of the Commonwealth and overseas arriving at the Court Post Office at Windsor Castle  marked the run up to the big day; on the eve of her birthday, the Queen hosted a dance for 600 guests.

A Forgotten Little Corner of Wood Green

A Forgotten Little Corner of Wood Green Posted by Hugh on August 12, 2020 at 10:40 in History of Harringay It s odd how my history journey goes. I seem to hit these patches when I keep getting drawn back to a particular small area time and again, even when I have no particular interest in it. When this happens, I tend to go with the flow and let fate take me where it will.  Recently, I ve been pulled back a number of times the block of land between Wood Green High Road and Lordship Lane. First I wrote a piece about the Chesser Blacksmithing family then a few months later, I found myself just next door following up about the Alsford Wood Merchants who got their start in Hampden Road, Harringay and then moved on to a large building on Lordship Lane just round the corner from the High Road.
