On Friday, February 12, Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives Ronald Mariano (D-Quincy) appointed legislators to various legislative committees for the 2021-2022 Session of the General Court. Newly elected State Representative Jessica Ann Giannino (D-Revere) was appointed to serve on four committees:
• The Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture,
• The Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies,
• The Joint Committee on Advanced Information Technology, the Internet and Cybersecurity, and
• The Joint Committee on Election Laws.
“I want to express my gratitude to Speaker Mariano for appointing me to these four committees, and I am excited to get to work on the business at hand for the upcoming session,” said Representative Giannino. “In their own ways, each committee will allow me to advocate for various needs of the Sixteenth Suffolk District in unique ways.”
The Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate reaffirmed its commitment today to addressing the climate crisis facing our Commonwealth by passing legislation that overhauls our state’s climate laws, drives down greenhouse gas emissions, creates clean energy jobs, and protects environmental justice communities.
The passage of An Act Creating a Next-Generation Roadmap for Massachusetts Climate Policy (S.9), comes after a joint commitment from Senate President Karen E. Spilka and House Speaker Ronald Mariano, as well as last session’s House and Senate Chairs of the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy, Senator Michael Barrett and Representative Thomas Golden, to refile the legislation following a gubernatorial veto last session.
In a socially-distanced inaugural ceremony, Governor Charles D. Baker officially administered the oath of office to the 192
nd Massachusetts General Court on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Among the legislators being sworn-in was the newly-elected State Representative for the Sixteenth Suffolk District, Jessica A. Giannino. Representative Giannino, whose district includes parts of the Cities of Revere and Chelsea and the Town of Saugus, was assigned “Seat 22” in the House Chamber, a seat that has a lot of meaning to the district and served as the very seat of Rep. Giannino’s immediate three predecessors.
“I am so very humbled and grateful to have this opportunity to serve you – the people of Revere, Chelsea, and Saugus.
