Courthouse News’ western bureau chief files his inaugural batch of campground reviews. First up: California’s Santa Barbara County.
Tired of waking up at campgrounds with a stiff neck and back in the cramped quarters of a Honda Element, I made the rash decision more than three years ago to spend most of my savings on a used truck and camper. Since then my trusty co-pilot Klaus the dog and I have been to dozens of campgrounds in seven states, from Southern California to near the U.S.-Canada border in northern Montana. We’ve camped on coasts, mountainsides, friends’ driveways and at RV parks.

HONOLULU, HI - OCTOBER 15: Masked passengers, aboard a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Honolulu International Airport on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020 above the Pacific Ocean.Kent Nishimura/Los Angeles Times via Getty Imag
A new mandate in a Biden executive order requires all airline passengers to wear masks in flight and in airports – something that the Trump Administration’s Transportation Dept. had consistently refused to do.
Airlines have had their own mask requirements in place for several months and have banned hundreds of passengers from future travel for their refusal to comply, but airline employees – especially flight attendants have long been pressuring the government to act, arguing that a ederal rule carries more weight.

Good morning, fellow stay-at-home adventurers. I’m back with another edition of virtual travel opportunities as COVID-19 continues to affect Southern California.
It’s unclear when we’ll be able to spend an afternoon at the Getty or the Broad, let alone when it’ll be safe to hop on a plane and visit museums in other countries. So I put together a few favorite virtual museum experiences you can enjoy from the comfort of your sofa.
Do you have a favorite virtual travel experience you’d like to share?
Let me know I’d love to include it in a future edition of Escapes.
