For a country of its size, many of its citizens volunteer to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces every year, so much so that military service is an important part of the local culture and identity. “As part of Task Force Oceania, I have learned that the U.S. military has a great impact in Palau, said U.S. Army Sgt. The mission of the task force is to provide continuous support in the Pacific Island countries, assist U.S. embassies as needed, and reinforce lasting and meaningful relationships in the region. Task Force Oceania’s Pacific Augmentation Team (PAT) Papua New Guinea (PNG) represents the agility of U.S. Army organisations to achieve mission success regardless of circumstances. PAT PNG consists of two soldiers, officer-in-charge, Captain (Capt.) Christopher Meza and cultural liaison officer, Corporal (Cpl) Louie Kaman. 1 U.S. EMBASSY KOROR The 9th Mission Support Command’s Task Force Oceania Team Palau helped the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Embassy at Koror carry out Operation Christmas Drop 2020. The success of OCD 20 was the result of months of planning and coordination between the U.S. military, the State Department, and several Pacific island countries.
