Green Valley focus of weekend fire safety effort
GREEN VALLEY Michael and Dorene Warchut planned to bring at least 10 truckloads of green waste for the Green Waste Days event Saturday.
It might be nice and green in the valley, but they both are very much aware that living in a wooded area means keeping up with clearing underbrush, removing trees and making a fire-safe space around their home.
The Week Ahead: Talk set on preparing for wildfires
FAIRFIELD A webinar to help property owners prepare for wildfires is scheduled Monday.
The webinar, which will start at 4 p.m., is being presented by the Green Valley Fire Safe Council, Elevate Sustainable Solutions, ForEverGreen Forestry, the Yolo County Fire Safe Council and the Yolo County Resource Conservation District.
Aaron Latta, a battalion chief with the Sonoma Lake Napa Unit of the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, will speak on the current state of wildfire danger in California and why it is important to act now.
Don Ryan (Solano) and Kurt Johnson (Yolo), with the offices of emergency services, will speak on evacuations. A panel of community members also will speak on organizing evacuations.
