Election candidates asked how they would support the return of an Isle of Wight ice rink
Candidates from across the political spectrum were asked where they stood on the issue of supporting an ice rink back on the Island
Details of where candidates in today’s Isle of Wight council and town, parish and community councils stand on the issue Ryde Arena have been shared by Ryde Arena Community Action Group (RACAG).
RACAG asked all candidates in the election to detail how they would support getting an ice rink back on the Isle of Wight.
They explained,
“The Covid-19 pandemic has changed all of our lives and further complicated the situation for us. The planning permission for the Smallbrook site came with a list of conditions, many of which can only be addressed by the council.
Many areas around towns and villages in the Braintree district are changing fast due to development. We do need new homes and employment sites, but all too often once sites are in the hands of developers, trees and hedges are cut down and ponds filled in. The combination of the Government’s drive for development and the failure of the Conservative administration at Braintree District Council to secure a Local Plan has left volume developers in the driving seat when it comes to planning, and many communities feel left behind. Many local residents have expressed concerns about the amount of development being proposed in the Bocking area, including at Straits Mill where 1,000 houses are planned.

Disastrous plans for a huge quarry on the outskirts of Coggeshall are expected to be submitted this month to Essex County Council. Blackwater Aggregates, the operators of Bradwell Quarry, will submit proposals to extract 13million tonnes of sand and gravel from a 400-acre site over a 20-year period. The quarry, when finished in the 2040s, would be vast and will be turned into a flood alleviation scheme complete with a huge dam near the historic Dick Nunn’s Bridge in the Blackwater River valley - a haven for wildlife, including otters and kingfishers. About 100 homes in Coggeshall, Kelvedon and Feering were affected by a 1-in-1,000-year flood in 2001 and the Environment Agency received a lot of criticism for not maintaining the River Blackwater properly.
