Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday announced he was lifting a statewide COVID-19 order mandating people wear face coverings inside of businesses across the state of Texas. That means beginning Wednesday, March 10, you may see more maskless people than usual out shopping for groceries and other supplies.
But while some companies have already signaled new policies to allow customers to go without face coverings, others are adhering to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which recommend people wear masks in public and while occupying indoor public spaces.

KATY, Texas – The Buc-ee’s in Katy was a popular site Wednesday night with people from across southeast Texas looking for gas. Jose Ortiz drove all the way from Eagle Lake just to fill two one-gallon cans.
“I had to drive about 50 miles to get here,” Ortiz said. “50 miles I had to drive to get these two gallons so I can run a generator overnight.”
For Briana Jones, who drove from Memorial, the quest was for gas and food.
“It’s bad,” she said. “We can’t live like this. We’re trying to go to Buc-ee’s to get some food. We’re just trying to scavenge around to see who has food.”

King Buc-ee is having some issues expanding his kingdom.
North Carolinians in the tiny town of Efland in Orange County feared the planned Buc-ee s would worsen traffic congestion, pollute a protected watershed, and offend aesthetic sensitivities. A whole group of irate citizens formed A Voice 4 Efland & Orange to oppose the 64,000-square-foot convenience store with sixty gas pumps and a 250-foot car wash.
“A lot of it goes to the identity of this county, and that’s not a massive eighty-foot bucktooth beaver sign with billboards saying ‘LOL, It’s Party Time.’ It’s quite frankly tacky,” Voice 4 Efland member Del Ward told Solomon.
