Karnataka: Security guard of dredging vessel found dead April 5, 2021, by Eldin Ganic A 42-year-old security guard of a stranded dredger was found dead this morning under mysterious circumstances in the sea at Guddekopala, Mangalore, the Indian state of Karnataka. The deceased is identified as Shankar, a local resident. Mercator Limited, the vessel’s owner, had deployed private securitymen to guard the stranded dredger Bhagvati Prem. Shankar had gone missing since midnight Sunday, the sources said. Two other security guards were in the dredger. The exact cause of the death is yet to be ascertained, local media reports. According to The Times of India, the dredger got stranded in the sea two years ago.

Mangaluru: Stranded dredger Bhagwati Prem finally sold   Fri, Jan 29 2021 04:53:02 PM Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP) Mangaluru, Jan 29: Bhagwati Prem dredger which had developed problems and had stranded at the seashore near Surathkal Guddekopla, has spent 15 months there. Now, New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has, as a last reosrt, auctioned the dredger for about Rs 4.5 crore. Those who won the bid have not yet taken steps to move the dredger from here. The dredger was on the verge of drowning in the sea during October 2019, after which the tug of New Mangalore Port Trust was used to rescue the dredger and anchor it near Surathkal. The dredger belongs to Mercator company and was in irreparable condition since April 2019 April and got stranded outside the NMPT anchorage. Another dredger owner by the same company, Tridevi Prem had also developed problems and drowned outside the anchorage in September that year.
