The county has not only seen a steady increase of cases between June and July, but also an increase in hospitalizations, Rodriguez said. In only a few days this week, the number of individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 in Nueces County increased by 245 percent, and those placed in intensive care increased by 155 percent.  We knew and believed that the reason this happened was because of variants circulating in our community, Rodriguez said.
