Exploring our nationâs most beautiful national parks just got immeasurably easier thanks to the launch of the National Park Serviceâs new app.
Gone are the days of park-specific applications that too often floundered in the performance of basic functions. Instead, outdoor enthusiasts can now celebrate the arrival of the aptly named National Park Service app, one that streamlines the visitor experience at any of the nationâs 423 NPS locations by consolidating information on hiking trails, lodging, news alerts, dining options, and much more.

Montanaâs Medicine Rocks State Park has been recognized as Americaâs newest International Dark Sky Sanctuary. Nicole Clausing – January 11, 2021 | Updated March 24, 2021
We know Montana is big sky country. And if youâve ever been under that vaulted sky at night, you know how good it is for stargazing. Now Medicine Rocks State Park, in the southeast corner of the state, has gotten official recognition for its clear, dark nights. The International Dark-Sky Association has named the park an official International Dark Sky Sanctuary, one of only seven in the United States.
The association has five levels of recognition, ranging from Urban Night Sky Places, which are densely populated areas that have taken steps to mitigate light pollution, to International Dark Sky Sanctuaries like Medicine Rocks. This category is reserved for the most remote and profoundly dark places in the world.
