Senate Committee on Ethics, Privilege and Public Petitions has resolved that a warrant of arrest be issued on the Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Effiong Akwa, to appear before it and explain how N6.2b COVID-19 palliatives were spent. x
It also resolved to investigate the alleged missing N27b for the payment of former workers of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
Chairman of the Committee, Ayoade Akinyelure, frowned on Akwa’s failure to appear before it and respond to the allegation that NDDC diverted N6.28b meant to procure COVID-19 palliatives approved by President Muhammadu Buhari for the Niger Delta region.

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, on Monday, requested a warrant of arrest on the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission to produce the former interim management of the agency, led by Professor Daniel Pondei.
The Senate panel resolved that the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, be contacted by the executive arm of government through the Senate leadership to produce Pondei and his team before the ethics committee on March 9.
Pondei and his team have ignored several invitations by the Senate panel over the petition against them by the Chairman of the agency’s COVID-19 Palliative Distribution Committee, Ambassador Sobomabo Jackrich.

For ignoring its summon four consecutive times, the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, on Monday, issued a warrant of arrest on the Interim Administrator of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Effiong Okon Akwa, for refusing to appear before it.
The boss of the Federal Government intervention agency for the Niger Delta region was asked by the Senate to appear before it to give an explanation on the N6.2billion spent by the Commission on COVID-19 palliatives.
Irked by the absence of the NDDC boss at its sitting on Monday, the Committee, chaired by Senator Ayo Akinyelure (PDP Ondo Central), resolved that the Inspector – General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, will be officially contacted by the Senate to bring the NNDC boss before the committee unfailingly on the 9th of next month.
Senator Akinyelure said: “Having invited head of the NDDC four times without honouring the invitations, this committee has no option than invoking relevant section of the Constitution for warrant of arrest on whoever is the boss of the agency now.
“The petition against the agency by an insider on alleged squandering of N6.2billion on COVID-19 palliatives last year is grave and weighty to be ignored.
