The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE), one of the highest professional bodies in the engineering field in the country, has presented an award to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in recognition and appreciation of its support of the activities of the academy towards enhancing economic development.   The NAE is a not-for-profit and non-governmental organisation established for the purpose of promoting excellence in technological and engineering training and practice to ensure the technological growth and economic development in Nigeria.     The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta received the recognition award at the 2021 Academy Technology Dinner/Lecture organised by NAE in Lagos, which had the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, as Special Guest of Honour.

Nigeria s Devt Hinges on Logical, Scientific Approach to Solving Challenges

Fadekemi Ajakaiye The President of Nigerian Academy of Engineering, Engr Alex Ogedegbe has said that Nigeria would more easily achieve its national aspirations with more logical and scientific approach to solving identified challenges in all sectors of the economy. Engr. Ogedegbe stated this at the 2021 Annual Lecture of the Academy which focused on “Locating Engineering and Technology in Government Policy Framework for Growth and development.” The President stated that10 new fellows were to be inducted, and that eight fellows would be honoured with the Distinguished Life Achievement awards for their recognition of a lifetime service to Engineering. “Our Academy collaborates with stakeholders to promote creative and analytical technical contribution to our national culture. This is because we remain convinced that our country would more easily achieve her national aspirations with more logical and scientific approach to solving identified challenges in all sectors

Celebrating Olu Maduka, Nigeria s Oil & Gas Icon, at 80

By Chris Paul In the twilight of last week, Nigerian women in energy, oil and gas community celebrated Engr. Joanna Olutunmbi Maduka, one of the pioneering engineers, who shattered the glass ceiling and made great strides in the early days of the nation’s oil and gas industry. It was the 80th birthday celebration, on May 6, of the first female engineer to break grounds in the hydrocarbon terrain in the country. Noted for her distinguished and unique accomplishments and track record, Joanna Olutunmbi Maduka, is the first to attain several feats among the female gender of Nigerian engineers. With a B.Sc. in applied physics in 1965, she passed the Graduateship Examination of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), (UK) in 1966 and earned an M.Sc. (Engineering) degree from Trinity College, Dublin in 1969.
