Nigerian Air Force to investigate alleged airstrike on ground troops

The Nigerian Air Force has stated that it has launched an investigation into an alleged airstrike on ground troops in Borno State.
The air force stated this on Monday, in reaction to reports that its personnel killed at least 20 officials of the Nigerian Army in an airstrike in the crises ridden town.
The airstrike reportedly took place at Mainok, where terrorists sacked a military base on Sunday. The air force had been called in to support the ground troops during the Boko Haram attack.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reacted to a report alleging an airstrike on Nigerian soldiers. The report by an online platform alleged that NAF fighter jet, on a mission against Boko Haram extremists, mistakenly bombed men of the Nigerian Army on Sunday, killing over 20 officers.
The video of a soldier describing the attack had been circulating on social media. In a tweet yesterday via its official twitter handle, NAF said it was investigating the report, adding that the general public would be duly updated as soon as the investigation is concluded.

The Nigerian Air Force on Monday said it was investigating report that it killed 20 Army personnel by accident in an air strike at Mainok, Borno State.
Report had emerged that an Air Force fighter jet on a mission against Boko Haram extremists mistakenly bombed men of the Nigerian Army, killing over 20 officers.
The troops were said to have been reinforced from Ngandu village to Mainok, which was under attack by militants from the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Reacting, NAF in a tweet on Monday said the general public will be duly updated after it concludes its investigation on the incident.

Fani-Kayode gave the warning shortly after Igboho’s residence was attacked by the Nigerian army.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that soldiers attacked Igboho’s house in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, at about 2 am on Monday.
Igboho’s spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, disclosed that the attack was carried out by the Nigerian government and with the support of the state government.
He said: “Chief Sunday Igboho’s house came under attack this morning, 26th April 2021 around 2 am with heavy gunshots. I will be releasing more updates later in the morning.”
