MERIDEN â A remote public hearing regarding proposed increases to the cityâs water use and sewer rates has now been postponed to May 5, according to city officials.Â
According to the proposal, the cityâs water usage rate would be raised by 6.89%, to $4.81 per 100 cubic feet, from its current rate of $4.50.Â

MERIDEN â City Manager Tim Coon couldnât accept a raise last September because of the economic impact of coronavirus, he said Monday.
âI thought it would be most appropriate [to consider receiving a raise] when we are outside the pandemic and we know what the economy looks like,â Coon said.

MERIDEN â Increased spending toward employee benefits and debt service are the two items driving city officialsâ $203.5 million fiscal 2022 budget request.
The proposal represents a nearly $5.3 million, or 2.7%, increase over the cityâs current $198.2 million spending plan.Â
First Lady Jill Biden has arrived in Meriden, the hometown of new U.S. education secretary Miguel Cardona, receiving a warm welcome from the city before touring the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.
