Public works employee Golden retires after long career serving Victor

Scott Golden is retiring after a long and productive tenure in the public works department for the City of Victor. Interim public works director Nate Beard, who worked under Golden, is taking the reins from a superior that exemplified what it means to be a leader. “He was a phenomenal boss,” said Beard. “He would try to take all the stress so we didn’t have all the stresses of all the major stuff going on.” Golden was brought on by Victor Mayor Don Thompson, and one of his first projects was to get the (then) new sewer system online.

Victor public works director steps down

Rob Heuseveldt, the Victor public works director and city engineer, submitted his two weeks notice to the Victor City Council and mayor on April 13.  Heuseveldt was hired to hold those two roles as well as city administrator in 2012. He had previously worked on contracted projects with the city through Sunrise Engineering. When current city administrator Olivia Goodale was hired in 2016, Heuseveldt was able to focus solely on engineering and public works.  He wrote in an email to the Victor government that he would be leaving his post on April 28. He plans to return to the private sector as the development director for a local company.

The Mynderse Academy and Newark varsity boys basketball teams split their regular season match-ups in Finger Lakes East play this season but the rubber match would come on the biggest of stages for Section V basketball, the Blue Cross Arena, with the Class B Championship on the line.   In a low scoring contest, Mynderse would grab a 12-9 lead after the first quarter of play and added to the lead by outscoring Newark 8-4 in the second period. The score at halftime was shockingly low at 20-13. The Mynderse defense continued to stifle Newark in the third quarter holding the Reds to just four points while Mynderse started to distance themselves from their opponents thanks to interior scoring from Jake Mein and a six-point third quarter from Mynderse senior guard Brett Anderson.
