At a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners Tuesday, the commission voted to approve the publication of an ordinance repealing the county s mask mandate, which was first enacted by the commission last May in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While it mirrored existing state requirements at the time, it allowed the Doña Ana County Sheriff s Office to enforce face masks in public and inside private businesses in unincorporated areas of the county. Sheriff Kim Stewart opposed the local mandate and sought voluntary compliance instead of doling out citations.
