Tucked on the tiny one-lane 13th Street in the Diamond Hill neighborhood is the very vertical brick house of Joshua and Maria Rolf.
Called a Virginia I house, the circa-1848 home is simply a central hall and staircase with one room off each side â nothing more. The floor plan carries in the basement, first and second floor and even the finished attic.
Windows line three sides of each room, reflecting its narrow, vertical nature.
âItâs big when you walk through it, but when you first come in â I mean my gut reaction when I first walked in was thereâs no way you could raise a family, even though a really beautiful, wonderful family was living here.

While some organ projects come together quickly, most usually take longer. And some, such as our recently completed Opus 24 for Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, seem to require almost a micro-generation to fulfill. For those who are patient, this duration can pay dividends. After all, relationships take time to build, not merely between people or groups, but also between the creative act itself and the space in which it has been asked to flourish. Christ Church is a complicated space with an involved history; our becoming part of it was never likely to be straightforward.

East Palestine Bob Davis (Robert C.) was a young 101 when he passed to eternal life on April 24, 2021. He was the 4th child of Clyde J and Virginia Everett Davis. As described in a postcard, written by his father on Oct 27, 1919 to Bob’s grandparents, “he arrived just before 11pm on Oct 26, a big 10 lb, red haired, very much alive boy”.
Bob lived almost his entire life in East Palestine, Ohio. He grew up in a family which eventually grew to 10 children during the depression years. Because money was scarce, Bob started working odd jobs at the age of 6, one of which was “peddling” the Pictorial Review along with his older brother Bill. Bob’s description of his early life can be viewed in a series of 10 interviews on You Tube under “Interviews with (Bob) Robert C Davis”. These interviews by Shawn Byers, took place 6 years ago when he was 95 years young.

Months after much of the former MacMurray College campus was sold at auction, some of the plans for the closed school are starting to come into focus.Journal-Courier
More plans are in the works for the buildings that were recently sold on the former MacMurray College campus, as the new owners take over responsibility for their purchases.
The MacMurray College Board of Trustees received just over $1.5 million from the auction of the 18 parcels last year following the school’s closing.
Since then, several of the buildings have found purpose for their new owners, while others are being developed or in the process of being discussed for zoning by the Jacksonville City Council.
