Macon Township Board meets today in outdoor, public meeting
The Daily Telegram
MACON TWP. A major step in the process of potentially bringing a solar energy facility to Macon Township was taken last week by a local utility company. Meanwhile, a public, outdoor meeting of the Macon Township Board to discuss the future of the facility is slated for 7 p.m. today.
Consumers Energy, headquartered in Jackson, announced Wednesday it has been OK’d to purchase the Mustang Mile Solar Energy Facility, a 150-megawatt solar energy project being proposed for construction in Macon Township.
The purchase agreement was approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission, which, at its April 8 meeting in Lansing, also approved a build-transfer agreement between Consumers and Mustang Mile Energy LLC for the Mustang Mile project. Build-transfer agreements involve one company developing and building a renewable energy project then transferring it to the utility.
The utility is estimating that about 64 thousand Michigan residents and businesses will be supported in their energy needs by the huge turbines that are spinning over the rural countryside.
