Award launched in memory of well-known farmer

AN award in memory of a farming icon has been launched. The Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust and the family of Frank Arden CBE (1915-1979) have announced the Nuffield Farming Frank Arden Leadership Award. Frank Arden CBE was the son of a tenant farmer who built a very successful grains and potato growing business in his home county of Lincolnshire, eventually expanding into poultry, dairy and units located in Scotland, Yorkshire and Oxfordshire. The aim of the award is to promote the personal development of a Nuffield Farming Scholar toward a wider leadership role within British agriculture. The winning applicant will receive funding to take part in a course provided by the Windsor Leadership Trust. Beginning in 2021, the award will be given biennially to a recent Nuffield Farming Scholar who resides in the UK and completed their scholarship at least three years prior to application.

Agri-Leadership Week campaign launches

A new cross-organisation campaign, #AgriLeadershipWeek, with the aim of raising awareness of pan-industry leadership training across the agricultural career spectrum has launched today. Taking place between 17-21 May 2021, #AgriLeadershipWeek is a joint scheme by AHDB, Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust, Institute for Agricultural Management (IAgrM), Worshipful Company of Farmers (WCF) and The Farmers Club Charitable Trust (FCCT). The campaign is targeting current and aspiring leaders within agriculture who may be unaware of or are yet to make use of any leadership training. It also wants to tackle the lack of formal agricultural education in the UK, when compared to its international partners, as only one-in-three agricultural workers in Britain have completed any form of proper training and schooling, compared with seven-in-ten in both the Netherlands and Germany.
