Police kill suspect in Lakewood after he allegedly fired on them from apartment balcony

LAKEWOOD, Colo. â Lakewood police say a suspect died after being taken to a hospital Thursday morning after he opened fire on SWAT officers and police from an apartment balcony, prompting police to return fire.
The incident happened at the Waterfront Apartments near W. Jewell Avenue and S. Kipling Parkway early Thursday morning.
Lindsay Jones, an agent with the Lakewood Police Department, said agents were dispatched to the apartments after receiving a call about a menacing person around 2:48 a.m. Thursday at the Carmel Waterfront apartments.

A state agency is looking to transform the lot across from the Maui Beach Hotel into a civic center with affordable housing units, a community center, government offices and the potential new home of the Kahului Public Library.
The Kahului Civic Center Mixed-Use Complex would be located at 153 West Kaahumanu Ave. on about 5.6 acres, including the 0.85 acres dedicated for the new Maui County bus hub, according to the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation.

A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday after he was seen driving a stolen pickup truck, according to police.
Mana Kapela was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, second-degree theft and fourth-degree theft. His bail was set at $1,000.
The 2003 Nissan Frontier pickup truck was reported stolen between 1 and 2 p.m. Monday while it was parked fronting Waterfront Apartments on Vevau Street in Kahului. Shortly before 6 p.m. that day, the owner reported seeing a man, later identified as Kapela, driving the truck from the Walmart parking lot to the Lowe’s parking lot in Kahului, according to police.
