“Radial gate #4 open with one-meter opening at 0600H, April 20, 2021,” the MARIIS said in a notice of dam discharge warning issued on Tuesday morning.
The MARIIS has provided a 24-hour lead time before the opening of one of the dam’s spillway gates.
As “reservoir elevation needs to be lowered,” the MARIIS said on Monday, April 19, an estimated 200 cubic meters per second of water will be discharged “in anticipation of the expected heavy inflow due to typhoon Bising.”
Magat Dam’s water level was at 190.22 meters, based on the monitoring of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) around 6 a.m. Tuesday.
