The scene is being held behind the Arthur Street Marketplace after a grim discovery in the Neebing River.
Emergency crews were called just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to reports of a body floating in the water.
An assessment of the individual on scene confirmed the death with their identity not being released at this time.
The Major Crimes Unit is now part of the investigation and the area around Neebing River is currently blocked off.

THUNDER BAY – Police are investigating a sudden death after recovering a body from the Neebing River behind the Arthur Street Marketplace plaza.
Emergency services including police, fire, and EMS were dispatched to the area just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after a 9-1-1 caller reported seeing a body floating on the river.
Emergency crews established the person was deceased on arrival, said the Thunder Bay Police Service in a release Tuesday evening.
At least half a dozen police vehicles were on hand early Tuesday evening, with officers and a drone investigating a scene blocked off along a ravine located behind Movati Athletic.
