SIOUX CITY A Lake City man pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a gun in federal court Tuesday, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa.
Jeffrey Carothers, 52, was convicted of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He was previously convicted of receiving stolen property in 1995 in Plumas County, California.
At a plea hearing, Carothers admitted to possessing a 9mm pistol around April or May of 2019, as well as being a meth user over the last one to two years. He had traded meth and marijuana for firearms about six times, the release said.
