3 hours ago in Local Photo: Saga Communications 5/27/21 The Arts Council of the Valley Board of Directors has voted unanimously to reopen the facility.  Court Square Theater operations were suspended in July of last year due to the coronavirus pandemic and a major funding cut from the City of Harrisonburg. In the meantime, A-C-V Executive Director Jenny Burden says they’ve been applying for grants and exploring several partnerships to help defray operating costs. The council is advertising for a full-time Managing Director position for the theater.  Former Director Mark Finks was appointed Harrisonburg’s Voter Registrar shortly after the theater suspended operations.

Along with the joy of declining COVID-19 cases, here’s something else to cheer about: the Arts Council of the Valley (ACV) Board of Directors has voted to reopen Court Square Theater, after suspending operations in July 2020. This encouraging word comes with a request for patience, as ACV upgrades the theater ventilation system (including installation of air purifiers); hires a managing director to oversee the reopening; and works on plans for a major gifts campaign to provide the big bucks needed to sustain a nonprofit theater.
