May 11, 2021 11:28 am A poacher was convicted and fined a total of €2,400 for assault and breaches to the Fisheries Acts in an incident that occurred last year, according to Inland Fisheries Ireland. The man, from Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, was convicted by Judge Marian O’Leary at Cork District Court on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 on five charges including assaulting fisheries officers. Officers of Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) had observed the man fishing in a prohibited area known as the ‘Flush’ at the face of the ESB Inniscarra Dam on May 23, 2020. The poacher was fined €500 for illegal entry upon the private fishery, €400 for obstructing the fisheries officers, €500 for assault and €300 for not having a Salmon Rod Ordinary Licence.

However, after a lengthy contested case in Kilmallock Court, Judge Marian O’Leary adjourned the matter to December to give her decision. She found Mr McDonagh guilty of assault causing harm but not guilty of dangerous driving. The judge gave an overview of the 73-year-old injured party’s evidence.

Anthony O’Grady, 40, of Marian Avenue, Janesboro, Limerick has pleaded guilty to possession of a variety of drugs, for the purpose of sale or supply on March 27, 2019. Detective Garda Barry Moylan said gardai were alerted to a man acting suspiciously and that when he arrived in the area he encountered the defendant and arrested him. He said 198 Alprazolam tablets, 120 Triazolam tablets and two blister backs of Valium were seized and that Mr O’Grady made full admissions.

Paul Mitchell, aged 47, of Lackanagoneeny, Doon pleaded guilty to cultivation of the plants and to possession of drugs under the provisions of the Misuse of Drugs Act.. Inspector Pat Brennan said on May 31, 2019, gardai from the crime office at Bruff garda station called to Mr Mitchell’s address as they wished to speak with another individual who was present at the house at the time.
