Kansas ordered to pay settlement to estate of Pete Coones, wrongly convicted of murder Robert A. Cronkleton, The Kansas City Star
Jun. 2 A Shawnee County district judge on Wednesday approved compensation of $826,301 to the estate of Olin L. Pete Coones, who spent 12 years in prison before he was exonerated of a murder conviction in Kansas City, Kansas, according to the Kansas Attorney General s office.
The compensation was part of a settlement in a lawsuit filed in November by Coones, who died from cancer on Feb. 21, 108 days after being released from prison. His lawyers say the cancer went undiagnosed during his wrongful incarceration. He was 64.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Former Shelby County Schools board member and judge Teresa Jones reportedly died this weekend after battling cancer.
Several community leaders and colleagues of Jones issued statements following her passing.
Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland shared a lengthy statement on the city’s website saying:
“I’m sorry to learn today of the passing of Judge Teresa Jones who lost her battle with cancer. I was honored to appoint Teresa to the Memphis Municipal Court, Division One, before she was overwhelmingly elected in October of 2019. A long time public servant, Judge Jones applied her talent as a Shelby County school board member, Chief City Prosecutor, trial attorney, public defender and adjunct professor. She was also a competi
